Getting Cricky: Challenge & Hop Winner

Hello Scrappy Friends. I know it has been quite some time and I do apologize for posting my winner this late but Ive been away enjoying the city. I guess my trip down memory lane (to Hollywood) made me want to make new memories :) However, it seems as tho having creating those new memories ended up making me ill. I ended up with the flu. It must have been those fleeting hours of rain we had. That's just my luck. Lol, oh well, that's all part of living it up :)

I would like to thank all of my new friends that clicked the follow button. I'm happy to hear that you really liked visiting my side of California and that you liked my fave project.  I hope to create  more of those for you.

Ok... so my winner for the hop is:

Cricky Across the 50 Blog Hop

Welcome to CALIFORNIA!!!  The land of the rich and famous, home to the oh-so popular LA Lakers and USC Trojans, where the sun shines year round (at least on my side of the state) and where we constantly live in fear that the San Andreas Fault line breaks and the big quake of '84 happens again. (Or was it 74? lol, well you get the idea. It was sometime back then :D)

I am very excited to be part of this big historic hop celebrating KAndrews (Getting Cricky) move across the country. The ever so sweet and generous Kristal is packing her bags and moving on down to California. Can you say WooHoo!!! I'll finally get to meet up with her and hang out after missing her at CHA last month.

Kristal has an amazing lineup with an even more amazing lineup of prizes (Sponsors will be listed at the bottom of the post). In order to be eligible, you must hop along to every stop and leave some bloggy love. The hop will officially begin at 9am PST today and will end on Sunday 2/13/11 at midnight. All winner will be announced on or after Monday, the 14th.

Ok, lets get started. You should be hopping over from ARKANSAS, the home of Teela Young of Coffee24Tea. In case you aren't, click HERE to start at the beginning. You do not want to miss anything.

As I said in my intro, we are a state known for the rich and famous. And who or what are they, well all the Hollywood stars of course. So what better way to introduce you to California than to talk about Hollywood. I am a So Cal gal that lives approx 15-20 minutes by street (depending on traffic) away from the Hollywood area. Prior to 2000, the Hollywood area wasn't as beautiful as it is now. Sure it housed (and still does) the famous Graumon Chinese Theater - where all the Hollywood inaugurations happen - and sure it saw a lot of my high school secrets (lol) but it wasn't what it is now. The Hollywood & Highland complex has become the main feature of Hollywood. The complex houses the Kodak Theater as well as dozens of shops, restaurants, theaters and a huge bowling alley. That space is also used for live events and provides night life entertainment. So this place is def a must see...

*** You can click on the picute to get a better view of the smaller pictures***

Hollywood & Highland
(L-R)
1. Hollywood & Highland Sign
2. Top view of the inside (where a lot of events happen.) One of the biggest events that take place is when the cast of Twilight come out to promote their current movie. They have done it for all 3 films and every year, the mayhem worsens.
3. Considered the main entrance to the complex, shops, restaurants, etc. This entrance is on Hollywood Blvd.
4. Semi-Birds Eye of Hollywood Blvd.
5. Kodak Theater. The new home for the Oscars.
6. Across the street of the complex is the original Disney Store and the El Capitan Theater. If you are standing on the stairs, from picture 3, you can see this directly in front of you.
7. and 8. Graumans Chinese Theater, located on the same side of the complex but to the side of it. Its pretty much all connected.

ONTO MY FAVORITE PROJECTS

I choose these 2 because they are a combination of my crafting loves - Stamps, Prismacolor Pencils (Coloring) and the Cricut. I also chose them because they are special to me in their own ways. You can find full details of them on their original posts.

"So You Say It's Your Birthday" Hop

Happy Monday Scrappy Friends. Welcome to our Beatles music inspired blog hop in honor of Ashley's. We are happy to have you hop along with us and help Erika (Cricut Love) celebrate her daughter's 11th birthday. Happy Birthday Ashley!!! I hope you have an amazing day :)

Ok, so let's get started. You should be arriving from Stephanie's blog. In case that you are not, start at the beginning (Erika) because you will not want to miss a single project.

For our projects, we were asked to create a Beatles song inspired project. This was a bit difficult for me, because although the Beatles are a great classic band, I really don't listen to them. Sorry Erika :)  When I first heard their 1 album, I was surprised that they sang all those songs I liked. lol. I was definitely a Beatles newbie up to a few years ago. So not really knowing the titles of their songs or all their music, I was a bit stumped as to what I would do. But after watching I Am Sam, inspiration hit me and I came up with this:

Picture 1: My inspiration came from "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"
Written by: John Lennon
Album: 1967 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Picture 2: Verse 4
"Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,
Waiting to take you away.
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,
And you're gone."

Picture 3: Last Verse
"Picture yourself on a train in a station,
With plastecine porters with looking glass ties,
Suddenly someone is there at the turstyle,
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes."

I know that my project is a bit different but I felt restricted by the cricut machine and stamps that I own. So because of that, I chose to create a mini piece of art for her. All that is needed is a mat and a frame and it will be ready for display. I used Strathmore Paper and Prismacolor NuPastels. I really enjoyed creating this for Ashley and I hope that she likes it.

Thanks for stopping by. Your next stop is:
Corri from Bug Lover Cards

Ps. Don't forget that we have four awesome Grand Prizes. In order to qualify, you must hop along to every stop and leave some bloggy love.

Valentine Theme

Happy Wednesday! For today's post, I have Valentine/Love Inspired Theme projects for you. Usually when Valentine is mentioned or marketed, the first thing that comes to mind is romantic love, spouse, partner, etc and they tend to forget that there are many singles out there. So my projects are in honor of all the singles out there. Hey, they need love too :D

I decided to show two completely different methods you can use for your projects. Of course these projects were inspired by the recipients and they have completely different tastes but I wanted to show you that Valentine inst only about Pink and Red. I did, however, keep a little of me in there and used a touch of Paris. I find the whole theme of Paris to be very romantic and hopeful.

Picture 1: "Friendship Inspired with a touch of Paris"

Picture 2: A2 Size Card
Flirty Anya from the Greeting Farm
Picture 3:  As you can see this card is very Valentine Inspired with the reds and pinks.

I will be playing with:
A Spoon Full of Sugar - Photo Inspiration
Papertake Weekly Challenge - Anything Goes + Flowers
Simon Says Stamp - Love Is In the Air
Bunny Zoe's Crafts - Love Is In the Air
Paper Play Challenges - Stamp It Out

Picture 4: Bookmark Tag
30's Lylah from Tickled Pink Stamps

Picture 5: This tag/bookmark is vintage inspired. I have been playing around with that method because I like the look of it for certain items.
This is also the first time I try making a rosette. They are simple to make but a pain to assemble. Sooo its a toss up.

I will be playing along with:
Tickled Pink Stamps Challenge - Vintage
Jitterbugging Challenge - Non Traditional Valentine
